Class 10 student kills mother, injures three relatives in Jalpaiguri attack

A Class 10 student allegedly attacked four members of his family with a sharp weapon in Dhupguri of Jalpaiguri district on Monday night, resulting in the death of his mother and serious injuries to three other relatives. The incident took place near Jurapani High School under Gadang No. 1 Gram Panchayat. Following the attack, the teenager reportedly attempted to take his own life and was later taken into police custody.

According to police and local sources, the incident occurred at around 8 PM when the teenager allegedly attacked his mother, Dipali Sarkar, with a sharp weapon. When his father, Nepal Sarkar, tried to intervene, he was also allegedly assaulted. Hearing the commotion, the boy’s cousin Priyanka Sarkar and aunt Sandhya Sarkar rushed to the scene and were subsequently injured during the attack.

Neighbours responded after hearing screams from the house and rescued the injured family members. All four victims were taken to Dhupguri Sub-Divisional Hospital in critical condition. Dipali Sarkar succumbed to her injuries while being transported to the hospital.

Nepal Sarkar, who sustained severe injuries, received primary treatment before being referred to Jalpaiguri Super Speciality Hospital, where he remains under treatment. Priyanka Sarkar and Sandhya Sarkar were admitted to Falakata Super Speciality Hospital, and both were reported to be in serious condition.

After the incident, the accused teenager reportedly attempted suicide. Police reached the scene after receiving information about the attack, took him into custody, and admitted him to a hospital for treatment under police supervision. Gadang No. 1 Gram Panchayat head Akashi Sarkar later visited the residence. Police have launched an investigation and are examining possible family disputes, the teenager’s mental condition, and other aspects related to the incident.
